Ann Sieg Gets Called Out!

A few years ago when my mom asked me if I would go into business with her and become her partner on this new “thing” she was working on, I was not an easy sell.

I was no stranger to network marketing and had no interest in ever getting involved with it again.

If you’ve read The Renegade Network Marketer you may remember her saying that I was actually her sponsor at one point, about five years ago.

We poured our lives into this particular business together for over a year. After a lot of lost relationships, maxed out credit cards and a negative return on my investment that would have the Federal government pounding down the door of any public company if they posted similar numbers, I came to the conclusion there had to be a better way to market a product or service.

So I decided to venture off and try some new approaches.

I got into affiliate marketing on the internet and became quite successful with that. It’s what allowed me to quit my job once-and-for-all and for the first time ever, experience what it was like to set my own time clock.

My mom, on the other hand, stuck with it.

She stayed in the MLM industry and about a year later I got a phone call from her.

“I Figured Out A Way To Make It Work.”

I was so excited by this news that I pretty much gave her the cold shoulder for another half a year or so.

After about 6 months of this, I reluctantly decided to hear her out.

She told me about all the things she was doing differently. She told me how she had figured out how to have people come to her. She told me how she was sponsoring 20 people a month practically in her sleep (and how none of them were biz opp leads or people from church). She told me about other ways she was making money without even retailing or sponsoring people.

It was everything that I had thought network marketing was supposed to be back when I joined my first company.

I have to admit, she had my attention. I liked this new approach and the idea of combining what she was doing with what I had learned about internet marketing.

So I Finally Agreed To Give This Thing Another Go And We Went
About Creating What Was To Become One Of, If Not The Most
Controversial Marketing Campaigns In The History Of MLM

The 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing, The Renegade Network Marketer, and the pay-per-click ads we’ve become somewhat infamous for.

We knew it would be risky, we knew it would upset people, and we knew we would create some enemies.

But in this case we felt that we needed to create some waves in order to get our message heard.

We didn’t have our breakthrough success with MLM until we started learning about business and marketing from sources outside the industry. And we knew these same breakthroughs would never happen for other people either as long as their company remained their only source of training.

I guess you could say we were “calling out” the MLM companies for continuing to teach marketing methods that simply weren’t effective any more. Not in an age where anyone has the ability to reach thousands of people for next to nothing with mass communication methods on the internet.

Well, On February 26th, 2009 It All Blew Up In Our Face

Someone was calling US out.

And it wasn’t an MLM company.

THAT we were used to.

A fellow leader in the industry named Ferny Ceballos had been using the keywords ‘Ann Sieg’ in his Google Adwords campaigns and we ended up sending him a cease and desist letter from our attorney to pull them down.

What happened next, no one saw coming.

This Little Letter Set Off A Chain Reaction Of Events That Turned
Into One Of The Ugliest, Most Heated, And Most Publicized Debates
Ever Witnessed By The Online Network Marketing Community

It was truly marketing warfare and it pulled in the biggest leaders in the industry from all sides.

I won’t go into the “gorier” details here, but in the end we got on the phone with Ferny and ended up defusing the situation.

The events that transpired after this “peace conference,” if you will, were equally shocking and that’s the real reason I’m writing to you today.

When we met each other for the first time over the phone we were all taken a little aback by how well we got along with each other.

And after settling our differences, we wrapped things up feeling so good about the situation that we asked ourselves, how can we really turn this whole situation into a positive for everyone? Not just for us, but for the industry as a whole and everyone who saw the entire situation unfold?

Napolean Hill says that “Every negative contains within it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.”

That couldn’t be truer in this case and it became very clear to us that this was one of the most valuable real-life case studies in leadership, conflict resolution, teamwork, collaboration, transparency, and even marketing, that we had ever seen.

The type of situation that you couldn’t make up if you wanted to.

They just come along every now and then and you have to seize the opportunity to grow and develop yourself.

So Ann, Ferny and Ferny’s business partner Raymond, decided to put together a very special presentation dissecting what happened and the take-away lessons that resulted from it.

It’s appropriately titled…

“War, Peace & Marketing”

And it’s one of the most content-rich business calls I’ve ever heard. Here’s a summary of what it’s all about:

The Adwords dilemma: This is where it all started. You’ll hear Ann and Ferny talk about some very controversial – and very powerful – strategies that both of our companies have used to create highly profitable advertising campaigns.

However, with these strategies comes another side of the coin and the debate is still raging about whether it’s ok to use them or not.

You’ll learn why some keywords that generate a LOT of traffic result in minimal leads…

While others that generate small amounts of traffic create an ABNORMALLY HIGH amount of leads.

You’ll also learn the exact steps for compiling lists of these hidden “goldmine” keywords, along with some wisdom on how to use them.

Conflict Resolution: Conflicts and disputes are a normal part of everyday life and business. This one just happened to play out in front of thousands of people.

The key is how you handle them. Working to create win-win situations could be one of the most valuable life skills you ever learn.

(Just so you don’t get the wrong impression: You don’t need a conflict to create win-win situations :-) They just make for really great examples)

If you can truly master the art of creating win-wins, it’s the key to success in virtually every aspect of business:

-Attracting prospects and customers to you
-Working with people day-in and day-out
-Closing sales nearly every time (and having fun while doing it)
-Structuring profitable and comfortable business deals
-Building teams of all star players

If you’re a leader or aspiring to be a leader, this information is mandatory.

Jiu Jitsu Marketing: You may have already noticed this but… there is A LOT of competition in the network marketing industry. In fact, “competition” doesn’t really do it justice. More like oversaturation.

Here’s the bad news: This WILL hurt you if you don’t know how to collaborate with other people. Unfortunately, this is the approach that most distributors are taught to use. I’m sure you’d agree that overall, there’s a very “guarded” mentality in the industry about “other” businesses, “other” products, “other” opportunities, and “other” people who aren’t in your own downline.

However, like it or not, the competition isn’t going away any time soon. The only thing you DO have control over is how you relate to the competition.

The good news is: Having a lot of competition actually IS a good thing and can really work in your favor… if – and this is a big “IF” – you know how to do it. In fact, this is one of the first things that any savvy marketer looks for when they’re going into a new niche: Is there a lot of competition? If so, it’s probably a niche worth pursuing.

In this call you’ll learn how to leverage “competing” distributor’s efforts and actually get them to happily build your business for you! There are plenty of ways the “little guy” can always use to win in marketing (without hurting anyone) and tap into the efforts of others.

If this doesn’t make any sense right now, it will. Ann and Ferny share some genuine David vs Goliath examples of how to turn ANY situation around to your favor.

And not just with marketing or business but with problems at work, relationship issues, health challenges, personal flaws & weaknesses… anything you can think of.

There’s a ton more on this call that I just don’t have space to cover right now but here’s an idea of what else they dig in to:

-Advertising legal issues
-Search engine optimization
-SEO “fuzziness”
-The power of social media
-Points of influence

(They even get into politics and the war on terror)

The call is being posted for free at BetterNetworker.com and you can watch it right now by going here:

http://www.betternetworker.com/articles/view/marketing/war-peace-marketing-ann-sieg-ferny-ceballos-raymond-fong

If you’re new to BetterNetworker.com, it takes two minutes to create a free account and it’s a perfect place to practice your skills of providing value first. It was created by Mike Dillard, the pioneer of online network marketing, and has grown into the largest social networking site on the web for network marketers to connect with each other.

Plus… you can also use it to connect with Ann now!

Another win-win that came out of this whole situation is that Ann also decided to become an instructor over at BetterNetworker.com, alongside with Ferny and other leaders in the industry.

Here’s the link to her profile where you can drop by and say hi:

http://www.betternetworker.com/members/Ann_Sieg

After you’ve done that, be sure to set aside an hour or two today and listen to this very rare and very unusual call on business, marketing and life:

Enjoy,

Isaiah Sieg
Ann’s business partner

P.S. -
On a side note, three years ago my mom managed to convince me to join her team and become her business partner.

It ended up being the best decision of my life.

(Funny how that works :-)

Our company is growing very rapidly right now and we’re having a hard time keeping up with everything, so we’re looking to fill a couple new roles on our team soon. If this interests you and you think you might want to take a look at one of these positions, I’ll be sending you more details about it soon.

If you’re the right person for the role, it may just end up being the best decision of your life.

  1. Hi Isaiah,

First off nice to meet you we’ve heard alot about you and how instrumental you’ve been in the development of the Renegade System.

I saw that video yesterday and completely blown away by the value that Ann, Ferney and Ray discussed in this training(hope to see more in the future).

I think it’s absolutely great that this situation ended up being a positive for all parties involved, this is a perfect example of conflict resolution at it’s best and the best example of true leadership that I’ve seen in any industry.

I would encourage any body who hasn’t yet seen this video to head on over to Mike Dillards Betternetworker and witness the coming together of three power houses within the network marketing industry.Looking forward to hearing more from you Isaiah.

  2. Hey Isaiah:

What a compelling story - thank you so much for sharing this inspirational background with us!

Your Mom’s values and life purpose have always touched me deeply. Her heart and her mission are changing a great many lives. Her professional standards, her excellence, her coaching and her leadership are revolutionizing a whole industry of entrepreneurs.

She’s a precious gift to us all. :-)

The Webinar she did with Ferny and Ray is a blockbuster, yes! And it’s wonderful that she’s now a ((vital)) part of our Better Networker Community!

I’m thinking that Ann Sieg must be very, very proud of Isaiah Sieg - her business partner - and WE are extremely grateful to you too! :-)

Here’s wishing you, your Mom and all of your family much continued success, prosperity and happiness.

    Warmly / Peter A.

  3. Hi Isaiah - I have found that integrity and authenticity are the foundation stones of any successful business, especially in MLM.

All of Ann’s work reflects these two basic principles and she has supported so many to develop these principles in their own business.

However, nothing is more rewarding than to succeed with your own family. Congratulations, I am moved and inspired by your success.

    With LOVE and GRATITUDE,

  4. Isaiah,

Very nice to see you post on the Renegade Pro blog. What a great story! Conflict resolution can be an opportunity to build and strengthen relationships.

I hope that people who are skeptical about Renegade Professional can at least try it “risk free” so they can make an informed decision. If I hadn’t made an initial $7,000 since it launched 2 months ago, and an additional $2000 per month residual income….I wouldn’t believe it myself. It sounds sort of too good to be true, but that’s the beauty of it!

IT IS TRUE! I feel obligated to help other achieve what Renegade Professional has helped me achieve. I will personally coach anyone who signs up through my blog http://MLMDiscovery.com

P.S. If anyone has any questions, or want to speak to me personally, fill out the contact me form on my blog and I’ll get right back with you.

  5. Hi.Great article.Glad all worked out for you.We have studied all of Ann’s great books for at least 2 yrs. We developed a 20pg web site with SBI which was built around Ann’s books, using our hot links to her sites. We anticipated an income from our referrals, but so far, nothing. Are we missing something? Wrote an E-zine article to the same goal. As soon as it appeared there was a competitive window of Anne’s next to it. We are ‘professionals’ at Renegade Univ. and are gaining great help from Mike Klingler. Moving on, what’t missing? Bob & Diane

  6. Fantastic post! I spent over a decade in am/quix before quiting. Say Ann’s ads everywhere online for years now. I know that there has got to be a better way than mall crawling and alienating every close contact. Need to take a break from MLM for a while to clear my head and heart.

  8. Hi Isaiah

I have to also say that it is nice to hear from you and to see you get out front and center to share your perspective and your Renegade history.

My name is Daviette and I have worked with Ann for a couple of years now. As a member of her marketing team, where she grooms industry leaders, I can also say the Ann is a master at conflict resolution.

What she has accomplished here with Fergie and with the BetterNetworker community is an example of how we can all truly have a business where we serve the people that we want to serve.

What her example teaches me is that I give and give and give..I can help others to win…and also win at the same time.

I am also looking forward to forming more relationships within the BetterNetworker Community. Together we will continue to ‘create more waves’ in the network marketing industry.

  9. Dear Peter,

Thank you for your support once again. You are my very dear friend. I’ll never forget your words of counsel way back on that summer day - Sunday, July 8.

We both knew we were kindred spirits right off the bat off from that initial call and we’ve remained the same since.

Yes, Isaiah and I are very close. He’s been an amazing business partner for me and my husband.

We incorporated with 80/20 Marketing shortly after we were able to bring my husband home to work with us in our business. That was in September 2006. It is a dream come true.

I remember asking Isaiah one day when he had stopped over to talk business, “Did you ever think you would own a business with your mom and dad?”

He said, “Yeah, actually I did.”

The rest you could say is history.

Isaiah and I have very strong core values that bind us together a bit more unusually then most mother-son relationships. (Or at least I think so.)

A lot of that stems from me being able to home school him and become a big “influence” in his life.

When you get right down to it isn’t that what it’s all about? Our ability to influence others to bring about a positive change in their lives. That is a weighty responsibility. And Peter I know you are totally there with me on this.

Some day perhaps we will meet along with other members of the Renegade family. :-)

Thank you to everyone else with your replies.

  11. Hi Isaiah,

I read about the dispute on the BN when it first transpired. In fact that was before I read Ann’s books. I remember writing that this could potentially become a very positive experience…in fact all of the controversy surrounding the whole situation brought on a lot of attention. That is not a bad thing, if you know what I mean :) Glad everything worked out, and I’m glad that we can now see Ann on Better Networker.

Nice to hear from you & get to know your story.

Yesterday I sat for about 2hrs and watched the training Ann, Ferny and Ray done.

I had great interest on the conversation on Betternetworker when this happened and remember I think it was either Mike Kligler or Eric Walker said something like “when the dust settles what is the lesson we learn here”..

Wow.. what great lesson to the whole MLM industry, for our businesses and most impprtantly life. This only boost our confidence in Ann, Fery and Raymond.

    Thank you :)

I will definitely watch/listen with head tilted toward my computer screen. Anytime the Sieg family shows up, there’s bound to be a good show.

Thank you for the interesting message today and I hope you can kick back and enjoy some fireworks tomorrow.

Damn it, I’m gonna have to SEO for all of those too!

I just wanted to say that I am humbled by this whole experience and I think it demonstrates that regardless of where you are in a conflict, there is always a way to produce a positive and powerful outcome — provided that both sides are willing.

I look forward to having this video spread and it impacting many lives.

  18. Hello Isaiah,

Nice to meet you! I was unaware your direct involvement in all the Renegade Network Marketer, and The Seven Great Lies of Network Marketing other than being mentioned in them directly. It’s neat how you can be business partners with your mom like that.

I appreciate you sharing this latest information with us.

I had a clue from Jason (The Better Networker) that this was going to a FANTASTIC and content loaded presentation!

That being said, I’m glad to hear it from someone who was directly involved in the situation, because it ads more credibility and gives us, “the rest of the story.”

I’d like to ad that it’s a wonderful thing when people who have differences of opinion can get past all the minutia of being involved in the heat of the battle, and really come up with something can benefit not only themselves, but others as well.

That’s what I call having a real servant’s spirit, always looking for the greater good in every situation they become involved with, and then taking that path.

It’s in typical Ann Sieg style of course, to go from disaster to masterpiece!

It reminds a lot of her controversial work “The Seven Great Lies of Network Marketing,” which you mention earlier in your article, where Ann takes a situation which I had though about for a number of years as being wrong, but never knew how to remedy.

I have been involved in the Network Marketing industry for about 25 years now, and what’s interesting, yet sad is: the “lies” are still being preached from the “pulpits,” today! They all justify themselves because they say that these lies are “duplicatable.” Well in my estimation just the first part of that word is correct DUPED, and that what people are being… duped.

Interestingly enough, it was as if Ann was able to literally reach into my cranium and pull my thoughts out, more importantly she was able to arrange them in such a manner that they actually made sense, because every point, which she brings up that book, is so dead on.

Even my wife DeLaine, who is not too overly enthusiastic with the Network Marketing business model, because of all the hype that’s involved, when she read “The Seven Lies” book she was all abuzz about it. I was watching, and listening to how enthusiastically she was endorsing it, her head was nodding emphatically with every point that gets covered and thinking out loud I heard her say, on more than one occasion “Yes, that’s how I feel,” on about every point that gets brought up in that report.

Thank you for being value oriented and wanting to share that value with others like me. It is for that reason I highly recommend, and enthusiastically endorse all of Ann’s material that I can get my hands on.

    With Kindest Regards.

I have to admit for the longest time I thought your name was Ferdie.

Finally Mike Klingler corrected me and said, “No, it’s Ferny.”

I’m not very good with names so it took me a while to get it straight.

Yep, it’s a bit of an unusual name. Nothing like Ann. There’s a humdinger for ya. Pretty plain but works real slick for a domain name (at least that’s what all our split test revealed.) :-)

Welcome to Renegade Pro blog Ferny. There’s a lot of nice folks here. Awful similar to the folks over at Better Networker. Which reminds me to hop on over there and say hi.

Basically I sell hearing aids [yeah, there's a lot more to it than that] but how does this system bring me more people who want to buy hearing aids? Thanks for sharing that story. We often get so entrenched in our position that we try our best to win the argument, never realizing that by doing so we may be losing the war.

  38. Thank you Ann, et al for what I have read tonight. I had all but given up hope of ever getting beyond all the hype, lies and antiquated ways if doing business which, incredibly, some MLM’s still insist on clinging to. There must be some covert reason for that.
Yes, perusing this was heartening. It had the ring of truth, integrity, and, vastly importantly, optimism. I have seen the stats which show that, heretofore, industry-wide, only 3% of MLMers ever make any real money.
Now it sounds as if you nave unearthed the rosetta stone, as it were, essential to translate the code of effort into the dogma of success!
For that I give you my sincere thanks and a one-man, virtual standing ovation! If you suspect a point, motive, agenda, etc. to all this high-falutin’ language- if you think I may be trying to impress you and con you into thinking I may have potential as a member of your team you’re right. I do want that. I want very much to help people. As many as I can, in as many ways as I can. And I see MLM as a means to do that. And I see your organization as very desirable vehicle to get me where I want to go. I have used none of the links; I wanted to, but it is late and I need to do so with a fresh mind plus I felt inspired to oratorial praise, and wished to indulge it. If I have had any other than the desired effect on you I apologize profusely. I will go back to the links and read everything, and make further contact soon.

  39. When the first confrontative letter Fernie wrote on BN, I read carefully Mike Klingler’s response. It is no surprise to me that there is a successful mediation. It is no surprise that Ann, Fernie and Raymond figured out how to make something good happen out of a negative.

I can see just from the hits to the original BN post that this topic has a huge audience, hence, now a market.

My confidence in Ann, Fernie,Raymond and the teams they represent just went up a notch as leadership qualities are magnified with this resolution.

    Great work you guys.

  42. I have a question. How do a get my picture to show up with my comments, like some of the other folks who have commented.

Is there a special club I need to join?

What are the dues? Do we have to vandalize one of those big green signs on the freeway, as part of our initiation? ;)

It’s not like a “blood in blood out” thing is it? Hope not. :P

    Thanks!

  43. Hey Ferny,
Below is a way to get your picture to show up in the blog.

    1) To get your photo on the blog use gravatar at: http://en.gravatar.com/
Make sure to use the email you use for this blog.

    2) If your photo needs to be resized for gravatar use: http://www.picresize.com/

If it’s under 800KB in size you should be OK in most instances. The instructions on the site are pretty straight forward. Hope this helps!

  44. Oh Ferny,

It’s going to cost you a pretty penny. Hmmm… lemme see here… how can I monetize this thing?

    Okay, totally kiddinnnggg…

(Besides, between you and me, Ferny that’s just not our style, right? That’s why we did our video training together: To help others learn from our mistakes so they don’t have to go through them like we did. Oh the learning. Painful but you gotta love it! It’s the only way to growth.)

It’s free just like Greg is telling ya.

Welcome to the gravatar club. Look forward to seeing your mug here!

  47. Hi, I just listen to attractionmarketers manesfesto and it was great. I will listen again, because I am not sure where I want to start, but I think I will start with blogs, and go from there. Thank you Ann Sieg you have helped me greatly. I have a little money to work with at this time. Could you tell me what health and nutrition site you promote and also the cost to get started, and any other site you are promoting that do not cost a lot so I can start making money. Thank you

  48. Hi Ann,
I purchased the Renegade Network Marketer last year. Quite honestly I haven’t done anything with it. Now that I am hearing about your new Renegade Professional, I’m a little confused. Would you recommend that I still read/ listen to all the Marketer program? How does the Professional program work? Do they both cover the same material or is the Professional one recommended for after marketer? I appreciate your feedback on this.

  50. Hi Anne,
I relate to Carrie. I joined last year and have not done much other than read the wonderful messages from you, Mike and Tania (my coach).
I’ve even chatted with Tania on the phone.
I have had some personal issues to deal with (both physical and family related) but I am on the right path now and determined to build what Mike Dillard calls YOUINC. Don’t you love the title of my new business???
I listen to you and really love what you teach so I am going to get serious starting NOW and hope to learn from you and your Team.

Thank you for what you do for us.

  51. Hi Isaiah,

Nice to hear from you and what a “cool” business partner you have! Just another benefit of this great industry!

I was really impressed with this whole situation and how it played out.

I was most impressed with the fact that everyone involved had the wisdom to see the lesson to be learned and then share it with the world!

    Thank you for your thoughts.

  54. This is a great article. I realize I am late in getting here but doing some research brought me here. I have just started Renegade Professional and am excited to be among good people.
This training is like nothing I have seen online , very hold your hand approach that many are seeking today.
Isaiah it is great to be working aside your parents and doing so well , what an accomplishment.
Ferny and Ann Sieg , did now know anything about this , but am very glad things were worked out .
Much success to you and everyone in the future ..
